Join Us For Worship!

Whether you’re a member of our church family or a first–time visitor, we have a place for you among our pews. You will find Schoeneck Moravian Church to be a welcoming and friendly congregation, a place where we seek to follow Christ together — bearing one another’s burdens and weaknesses, celebrating our different gifts, and rejoicing together.

Worship in the Moravian Church, like many other aspects of the Church’s life, allows a great deal of flexibility. The reading and interpretation of the Gospel is central to Moravian worship but there is much more to worship than preaching. Worship is our opportunity to praise God together in a variety of ways.

At Schoeneck, most worship services include the essential components of prayer, hymns, liturgies (responsive readings), scripture lessons, a Children’s Message, special music, and a sermon.

Moravian traditions, Holy Communion, fellowship, and celebrating God’s love for us and our love for each other are common features of worship at Schoeneck. Our worship services prepare us to share Christ’s love and mission in our communities and in the world.

These are our general worship times, but our homepage will always have the current schedule for the upcoming weekend:

  • Sunday Morning Worship at 8:00 am and 10:30 am
  • Sunday School for children, youth, and adults at 9:15 am
  • Sunday Morning Worship at 9:30 am
  • Summerfest — Children start in worship before going to Summerfest for learning and fun activities.

We encourage you to join us in person for worship in our beautiful sanctuary.

Congregational worship is our shared opportunity for spiritual growth and faithful fellowship. There’s something so special about worshiping side by side. We recite the liturgy, pray for one another, listen to scripture readings, hear God’s message through the sermon, and make beautiful music together by singing hymns in praise and worship to God. When we worship together, a special bond is formed between us that comes from feeling Jesus Christ’s presence among us.

Accessibility

Here at Schoeneck, we want everyone to feel welcomed through our doors. There are accessible parking spaces at the upper portion of the parking lot, close to the Main Entrance.

Just inside the main entrance, to the left, is an elevator lift that can be used by anyone who has trouble using the stairs. It is easy to operate, but one of the Greeters can assist you if necessary. The lift will take you upstairs to the sanctuary level.

The main level of the church is one level with wide hallways, offering access to those who have limited mobility or require assistance. An easily accessible / large family bathroom is located just outside the Fellowship Hall.

Large print versions of our hymnal and worship bulletins as well as hearing assist devices are available — simply ask an Usher as you enter the sanctuary.

Children In Worship

Children are always welcome and encouraged to attend worship. Worship is a serious and seriously joyous time, only made better by the inclusion of children. Children — noises, fidgets and all — are an integral part of what God is doing in our midst and we are delighted to share this time with them. Activity bags filled with a few quiet activities are available to help entertain your little ones during the service. Simply ask one of the Ushers for an activity bags for your children to use during worship.

At most worship services we offer a Children’s Message for children of all ages — teens included! This time in worship features a special message from Pastor Ian just for our children (and also maybe for the adults listening in!) relating to the theme of the day’s worship service. Children are invited forward, and parents are welcome to join their children if it helps them participate, or members of our Youth Group are happy to hold their hand or sit with them.

If you would prefer, we do have a Nursery available with childcare for all children, newborn to 4 years old. Our youngest children can experience the love of God through the attention and care of those around them. The Nursery, located near the main entrance across from the Church Office, is a clean, safe, and child–friendly environment, led by volunteers who are dedicated, trained, and have successfully completed a recent background check. You may drop your children off in the Nursery before worship begins, or children can be in worship long enough to participate in the Children’s Message before you take them to the Nursery.

Safe Sanctuary Program

We believe that all people are precious children of God and deserve to be safe in all places, especially our church. Because we hold this value, we seek to provide a safe place for all people to gather in those buildings and spaces where we serve God.

To that end, Schoeneck Moravian Church practices the Safe Sanctuary program, a policy ensuring the proper care of children, youth, and vulnerable adults in our community, which balances ministry and caution.

All staff and volunteers who interact with our children and youth must obtain the proper background checks and child–abuse clearances before they begin working with our kids. Background checks and clearances are provided at no cost to the volunteer.

The Sacrament of Holy Communion

We believe the sacrament of Holy Communion is God’s gift to us. It represents the work and power of Christ, who is present through the sacrament. We recognize the tremendous value of coming together at the table for the Lord’s Supper as it reminds us why we are called together as a community of faith.

The Moravian Church practices open communion — if you have been baptized in a Christian church, regardless of denomination, we invite you to partake in the Sacrament of Holy Communion with us. At Schoeneck, we use either communion wafers or freshly baked bread with grape juice as the elements for communion. Gluten–free wafers are available upon request.

Baptized children, who have an age–appropriate understanding of the sacrament, are also invited to receive communion. If you think your child is ready to receive Holy Communion, please speak with Pastor Ian.

Snack ‘N Yak Fellowship

A time for fellowship and socializing with delicious snacks and beverages takes place on occasion after worship services. Named Snack ‘N’ Yak, it’s a wonderful chance to reconnect with fellow church members, welcome visitors, or delve deeper into the themes discussed during the service. We even have our own mascot, named Snickle Fritz!
