At Schoeneck Moravian Church we believe that faith is best demonstrated through acts of service and compassion. From feeding the hungry to supporting families in crisis, Schoeneck’s outreach programs address real needs in the Nazareth area. This isn’t just a church doing community service — it’s the church being the church. Through outreach programs, volunteer efforts, and community partnerships, Schoeneck actively works to bring hope, support, and transformation to those in need.
Schoeneck values our Nazareth community and believes everyone can be involved in caring for and loving our neighbors. Our church stands ready to be of help to anyone seeking its ministry in a needy world. This can happen through simple acts of kindness like prayers and hugs or by providing meals or donating clothing to help those in need.
We offer the following list and details to give you an idea of how Schoeneck is connected within the Nazareth community. Please join one of our many initiatives so we can help serve our community together in various ways, both big and small.
Adopt-A-Highway

2026 will be our 25th year of providing this service to our community! Held three times a year on a Saturday morning in April, July, and October, we care for God’s creation as part of the PennDOT Adopt–A–Highway program. Join us as we clean–up our designated 2–mile section of Jacobsburg Road. Participants must be at least 8 years old, and at least one parent/guardian must accompany them. We meet in Schoeneck’s parking lot at 9:00 am on clean–up day. Watch the bulletins, newsletters, or social media for specific date announcements. Please contact John Beitel through the Church Office with any questions.
Community Dinner Ministry

Schoeneck serves a free meal to the community once a month from April to September, as well as a Thanksgiving meal in November. We see these meals as a chance to nourish both body and soul. In addition to a healthy, hot meal with a delicious, home–made dessert, we also offer prayers, kind words of support and encouragement, and much needed connection in an often–lonely world. The meals are offered on the last Wednesday of the month from 4:00 to 5:30 pm (while supplies last) either by mobile pick–up in our parking lot or gathered together in the Fellowship Hall. In 2024, the Community Dinner program served over 1,900 meals. We can always use additional helpers — to cook, to deliver meals to cars in the parking lot, and to offer connection and fellowship. Watch the bulletins, newsletters, or social media for specific date announcements. Please speak with Sharon Schuler or Gloria Floyd, Coordinators, or any member of the Mission & Evangelism Committee for more information.
Loaves & Fishes Soup Kitchen

In conjunction with several churches, the Loaves & Fishes Soup Kitchen serves the residents of Nazareth and Bath, offering meals every Saturday. The Loaves & Fishes schedule is as follows: Christ UCC Church (109 S. Chestnut St., Bath) hosts the meal on the 1st & 2nd Saturday of the month. St. John’s UCC, (183 S. Broad St., Nazareth) hosts the meal on the 3rd & 4th Saturday of the month. And on the 5th Saturday of the month (if applicable), the meal is hosted at Nazareth Moravian Church, (4 S. Main St., Nazareth). Doors open at 11:30 am. Lunch is served from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. New volunteers are always welcome, no matter what church you belong to! For more information about the soup kitchen, please call St. John’s United Church of Christ at 610–759–0893.
Nazareth Area Food Bank

In the spirit of community, service, and sharing, the Nazareth Area Food Bank aims to provide for the needs of hungry people with dignity and compassion by gathering and sharing quality food. To receive food from the Nazareth Area Food Bank, clients must live within the municipalities that make up the Nazareth Area School District — residents of Nazareth borough, Upper Nazareth Township, Lower Nazareth Township, Bushkill Township, Stockertown borough, and Tatamy borough. Watch the bulletins, newsletters, or social media for announcements regarding our next NAFB non–perishable food collection date.
Nazareth Days

Nazareth Days, held the third weekend of July each year, is an annual two–day long celebration of the founding of the Borough of Nazareth. Schoeneck Moravian Church has a tent in Nazareth Borough Park (in a nice shady spot!) on Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Volunteers are needed to represent Schoeneck to the greater Nazareth community. Shifts are usually available in two-hour time slots — you can sign up for just one shift or as many as you like! This is a wonderful opportunity to share God’s love with our neighbors. Watch the bulletins, newsletters, or social media for announcements.
Nazareth Ministerium

Schoeneck Moravian Church is a member of the Nazareth Ministerium. The Nazareth Ministerium is a group of churches in Nazareth, Pennsylvania that work together with other organizations to identify people and families in the Nazareth area who need help. They can provide assistance with food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, heat, and transportation. If they are unable to provide assistance, they can offer information about other organizations that may be able to help. For more information about the Nazareth Ministerium, please speak with Pastor Ian.
Schoeneck’s Annual Rummage Sale

On the first Saturday in June, Schoeneck holds a rummage sale! While this is primarily a fundraiser for the church, for several years it has increasingly been an act of service to the community. With rising prices for just about everything, we have heard many comments about how grateful people are to find clothes and household items in such good conditions for prices they can easily afford. Volunteers are needed in many different ways to support the Rummage Sale — watch the bulletins, newsletters, or social media for announcements. Please click here for Rummage Sale FAQs.
Summer Lunch Program

Loaves & Fishes also sponsors the Nazareth Summer Lunch Program, which provides a free brown–bagged lunch for children, youth and older adults living in the Nazareth area. The program runs for 11 weeks from June to August. The generous donations received from churches, service organizations, businesses, and individuals, and the time and talents of the many volunteers make this program work. In the summer of 2024, the Summer Lunch Program served 2,255 lunches prepared by 353 volunteers. Schoeneck Moravian Church is usually scheduled to prepare lunches for the Summer Lunch Program during a week in August — watch the bulletin, newsletter, and social media for announcements. For more information about the Summer Lunch Program, please call St. John’s United Church of Christ at 610–759–0893.
