Moravians have a long tradition of nurturing a love of Christ in children with education grounded in scripture for all ages. Schoeneck’s Sunday School provides an opportunity to grow in faith and the knowledge of God’s grace. We seek to lay the foundation for a personal relationship with Jesus. New families seeking a warm and positive environment to learn about God’s love are always welcome.
We believe even the smallest child of God can be taught to love and praise Him. We provide a safe, loving, and clean environment where kids have fun and learn just how much Jesus loves them.
Attending Sunday School instills virtues in children by educating them about their faith and providing them with a solid foundation in Christian ideals. Early exposure to God’s Word encourages youngsters to keep their faith and seek comfort in times of adversity, building a life–long relationship with the church and its teachings.
Sunday School for children and youth is held most Sundays at 9:15 am, September through June. Rally Day, held in the Fellowship Hall on the Sunday following Labor Day, kicks off our Sunday School program each year. We gather to meet our teachers, fellow students, locate our classrooms, and complete a service project together as a congregation.
Our Sunday School consists of a wonderful, exciting group of children and young people. They learn from Bible stories prepared by dedicated leaders and shepherds, who volunteer their time and talent to these children each week.
- We invite children from age 3 through high school to join us.
- We learn about God’s love and his gifts freely given to us.
- Children learn and experience Bible stories and how these truths apply to their everyday lives.
- We share faith, fellowship, and fun while making friends, too!
Schoeneck Moravian Church is committed to offering an inclusive learning environment for all families. Children with support needs are encouraged and welcomed in any of our classrooms. If special accommodation or aid is required, we will make every effort to provide the services and resources necessary for success. For questions, concerns, or for more information, please contact Pastor Ian.
We Invite You to Join Us!
Even if the Sunday School year may be underway, you are welcome to join at any time. The Sunday School Registration Form can be found here. You can print it out and bring it with you on Sunday morning.
The Christian Education Ministry holds special Sunday School events and activities throughout the year. These include the Backpack Blessings, the Birthday Social, Mother’s Day Tea, Father’s Day Brunch, an Advent Workshop, the annual Christmas Program, and more. We encourage our Sunday School children and their families to join in as many activities and events as you can as a way to share fellowship and faith together.
Sunday School for Children
Our children’s Sunday School is an exciting place to learn and grow each Sunday! Children engage in age–appropriate study of scripture to inspire faith by learning together. Our leaders and shepherds provide a safe space to ask big questions, and help them claim their identity as children of God. We learn about Jesus through Bible stories, crafts, music, and fun each Sunday. Our Sunday School classes begin at age three.
Schoeneck has devoted and caring leaders and shepherds teaching our children in Sunday School. Two teachers are present each week and are required to complete the Safe Sanctuary volunteer training.
Cradle Roll
Coordinator – Donna Francisco
Every child under the age of three who is baptized or received into the non–communicant membership of our congregation is enrolled in the Cradle Roll. Parents are provided with newsletters at appropriate intervals in their child’s development. SPLASH curriculum covers a broad range of subjects concerning child–rearing and nurturing the spiritual growth of children. Children remail enrolled in the Cradle Roll until the age of three when they are promoted to the Pre–K class.
Pre-K & K meet in the Nursery with Leader JoAnn Heckman.
We believe learning about Jesus should be a joyful experience, while also providing our children with a strong foundation in our faith. This class uses the Gospel Light curriculum which helps children to experience God by using fun, easy–to–learn activities to inspire and encourage our little ones to start their life–long journey with Jesus.
1st – 4th Grade meet in Room 2 with Leaders Barbara Butz & Tammy Mehlig.
5th – 7th Grades meet in Room 9 with Leader Sarah Hriniak.
We believe that learning about Jesus should change our hearts as we come to experience and understand how Jesus is present in our lives. Both classes use the Whirl curriculum by Sparkhouse, which uses Bible Stories to help kids move from knowing facts about God to knowing and understanding God’s heart. Interacting with the Bible in every lesson, the children and their teachers grow in faith as they explore each story. We study God’s Word, learning to apply it to our lives and learning how to help others.
Sunday School for Youth
Our focus in Sunday School for youth is to develop a sound understanding of God’s word and apply Biblical concepts to their everyday lives. Their faith in Christ is strengthened so they can emulate Christ in their everyday living. Sunday School is a chance for youth to ask faith questions and engage in honest conversations.
As they grow into adulthood, we encourage our youth to develop lifelong habits of learning, service, and being in caring relationships with others.
7th, 8th & 9th Grades meet in Room 10 for Confirmation Class with Leaders Allene Rampulla & Brian Dishong.
In the Moravian church, confirmation follows a period of instruction in Bible study and education in the doctrines, practices, and heritage of the church. The intent of the program is to provide our students with an understanding of what it means to live in the world as a Christian.
For more information on the Confirmation program, please click here.
God’s Class (10th, 11th & 12th Grades) meets in the Senior Youth Room with Leader Mike Rampulla.
Our oldest youth get together for study, discussion, and fellowship (and occasionally donuts!) We explore the Bible and discuss everyday life and contemporary issues that the kids want to talk about, and how it all relates to the Christian faith. Open conversations, lively discussions, and prayer time occur each Sunday morning. As a group, we encourage everyone to participate, and we welcome all insights and questions.
Can YOU Help with Sunday School?
We are always looking for volunteers to help with our children and youth Sunday School classes. It is an important part of our children learning to “be” the church for them to develop relationships with faithful Christians. You do not need previous experience to be a leader or shepherd for the children, just the love of children and God in your heart!
Leaders
Sunday School Leaders most importantly must love God, believe and follow His word, love children and want to teach them about God and the Bible. They are expected to prepare the lesson prior to Sunday and teach the children with enthusiasm and heart-felt love.
Shepherds
To be a Shepherd for the children there is no prep work required. All we need is a second caring adult to be in the room with the leader and kids, to help out if needed, and you can choose which Sundays you are available.
Special Events
We have plenty of big and small opportunities to get involved in our Christian Education Ministry. Our special events and activities are great ways for people to help who can’t make a weekly commitment to leading a class.
Clearances
As a reminder, all staff and volunteers who interact with our children and youth must obtain the proper background checks and child-abuse clearances before they begin working with our kids. Background checks and clearances are provided at no cost to the volunteer.
Questions?
If you have questions about curriculum, joining a class, volunteering, or to help with special events, please contact Pam Stampf, our Sunday School Coordinator, at [email protected].
