Life-Long Learning

Against a backdrop of an open Bible are these words from the Moravian Covenant for Christian Living, "We realize that our Christian faith must continually be nourished if it is to remain living and vital. Therefore, we desire to grow in our Christian lives through family devotions, personal prayer, and study, and the opportunities for spiritual development offered by the church."

Education has always played a vital part in Moravian church life. Moravian schools and colleges are found throughout the Moravian world. Strong Christian educational programs are an integral part of each congregation’s life. Camps, conferences, and retreats are held in each area of the world-wide church for children, youth, and adults.

At Schoeneck Moravian Church, we believe God calls each of us to continue to learn more about our faith. Therefore, Christian Education is a vital ministry of our congregation. We believe that the educational process is a life-long journey that includes a Biblical foundation, fellowship, and service in a nurturing community. Beginning with our youngest brothers and sisters and extending through adulthood, Schoeneck offers a variety of opportunities to learn, explore, question, grow, and celebrate the Christian faith.

We encourage you to explore the programs we provide to continue to grow spiritually in your life. Sunday School for children, youth, and adults is offered most Sundays at 9:15 am, September through June. We also offer mid-week Bible Studies, Summerfest, and Vacation Bible School, along with opportunities for fellowship, service, summer camp, and retreats. No matter your age or whether you’ve been involved in a program in the past or never before, we invite you to join us as together we pursue life-long faith formation.

Schoeneck Moravian Church is committed to offering an inclusive learning environment for all families. Children with support needs are encouraged and welcomed in any of our classrooms. If special accommodation or aid is required, we will make every effort to provide the services and resources necessary for success. For questions, concerns, or to inquire further please contact Pastor Ian.

Christian Education Ministry

The Christian Education Ministry oversees the Christian education, spiritual formation, and faith development of all members of the Schoeneck Moravian Church congregation. We plan, brainstorm, discuss, develop, and foster opportunities for life-long spiritual growth with the educational programs of the church which include Sunday School, Youth Fellowship, Vacation Bible School and other activities. We also assist with all Sunday School sponsored events.

Members serve a one-year term except for the Chair and Sunday School Coordinator (three-year terms). The election of the Sunday School Coordinator and At-Large Members occurs at the Annual Church Council meeting, held on the first Sunday in February.

We also welcome YOUR attendance and participation in the meetings. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm.

Volunteers Needed!

We are always looking for volunteers to help with our programming. It is an important part of our children learning to “be” the church for them to develop relationships with faithful Christians. We have plenty of big and small opportunities to get involved in this ministry and no experience is required. Our special events and activities are great ways for people to help who can’t make a weekly commitment to volunteer.

The Christian Education Ministry holds special Sunday School events and activities throughout the year. These include the Backpack Blessings, the Birthday Social, Mother’s Day Tea, Father’s Day Brunch, an Advent Workshop, the annual Christmas Program, and more. We encourage our Sunday School children and their families to join in as many activities and events as you can as a way to share fellowship and faith together.

If you have questions about curriculum, joining a class, or volunteering, please contact JoAnn Heckman, Christian Education chair, at [email protected].

Safe Sanctuary Program

We believe that all children, women, and men are precious children of God and deserve to be safe in all places, especially our church. Because we hold this value, we seek to provide a safe place for all people to gather in those buildings and spaces where we serve God.

To that end, Schoeneck Moravian Church practices the Safe Sanctuary program, a policy ensuring the proper care of children, youth, and vulnerable adults in our community, which balances ministry and caution.

All staff and volunteers who interact with our children and youth must obtain the proper background checks and child-abuse clearances before they begin working with our kids. Background checks and clearances are provided at no cost to the volunteer.

Church Library

We are blessed to have a wonderful church library with Christian reading, listening, and viewing materials of many genres for people of all ages. All materials selected for our library are meant to enhance spiritual growth and to support the many ministries of the church. Anyone can to borrow materials from our libraries by simply putting their name and the date on the card (instructions are in the library). Non-members are asked to include contact information. Return is expected in one month.

Continuing Education

We are fortunate to enjoy close proximity to Moravian Theological Seminary. The seminary welcomes all who seek to deepen their faith through theological education. Continuing education events, the Center for Moravian Studies, a wide variety of courses in diverse disciplines, and the Crossroads Lay Leadership Program are just a few of the opportunities available. For more information, visit the Seminary’s website.
