Giving

Schoeneck's gold offering plates are stacked together on a medium wooden tabletop in front of a larger offering plate which is standing against the white wainscoting of the wall.

Christian stewardship begins with God at the center. When stewardship revolves around any other center, it is misconceived. Stewardship is servanthood to God through the church, not to the church institution. God calls His followers to store up their treasures in heaven, giving generously as He has given so generously to us in Christ Jesus.

We invite you to express your commitment to our ministry and your gratitude to God by offering your time, creativity, wisdom, and financial resources to Schoeneck Moravian Church. All your gifts make it possible for us to serve God together as we carry out the many worship, educational, fellowship, and service ministries of our congregation.

Ways To Give At Schoeneck

Your generous donations and tithes help us continue our mission and support our various programs and outreach efforts. In short, your giving changes lives.

At Schoeneck

Cash and checks can be placed in the offering plates during worship. If you are a church member, please use the offering envelopes you receive each month in the mail whenever possible. Offering envelopes are also available in the pew racks for visitors and guests.

When the church is closed, you can put your offerings in the secure drop box outside the church doors.

By Mail

Send your tithes and offerings to Schoeneck Moravian Church, 316 N. Broad St. Ext., Nazareth, PA 18064-9522. Please make checks payable to Schoeneck Moravian Church, with a designation (if desired) in the memo line. Do not sent cash through the mail.

Electronic Check

Make a payment through your bank’s “bill pay” service. This can be a one-time or recurring payment made by the bank on your behalf. Some banks cut a check and mail it to the church at no cost to you. Contact your bank for details.

Online Giving

Members, friends, and visitors can give to Schoeneck through the Online Giving Portal of the Moravian Ministries Foundation in America (MMFA). Online donations via the MMFA Giving Portal are secure, quick and convenient, providing you with an instant confirmation and receipt for your records. Your contributions will come directly to Schoeneck. The MMFA does not charge you or the church any fees. For Frequently Asked Questions about Online Giving, please click here.

Your gifts to Schoeneck are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by the IRS. You will receive a giving statement from Schoeneck at the end of the calendar year for tax purposes.

If you wish to speak to someone about your contributions, or a special gift, please contact our Church Treasurer, Brenda Makovetz, through the Church Office.

Other Giving Opportunities

We make financial contributions which express our gratitude for God’s love and our commitment to care for each other and our neighbors through the ministries of our church.

Joyful Noise Offerings

A Joyful Noise Offering takes place on the first Sunday of each month. Following the Children’s Message, the children grab metal buckets and collect loose change from the congregation. Proceeds go to Moravian Open Door, a non-profit organization committed to providing transitional housing and supportive services to people experiencing homelessness, those who are in distress, and the underserved population of New York City.

Memorial Fund

As a way to honor the life of a loved one, memorial gifts to Schoeneck Moravian Church can be offered in their name. Family members will be given a list of donors and a total amount collected.

The family may designate gifts given in their loved one’s memory to a specific project or program, or leave them undesignated until a need is identified.

Organ Fund

We still have our organ fund which will be used to pay for the organ’s future maintenance needs.

Planned Giving

Thanks to the help of the Moravian Ministries Foundation, Schoeneck Moravian Church is able to accept stocks, bonds, and planned giving arrangements as gifts. Planned giving is the process where you create a financial or estate plan in which you give something of value to the church at a future date, such as at when you enter the Lord’s more immediate presence. Many times, this is a gift that is planned through a will, and can be anything from cash or real estate to stocks, or even art!

For more information, please contact Moravian Ministries Foundation at their website or call 1-888-722-7923.

Giving to Other Moravian Entities

You can donate to a variety of Moravian missions and ministries through the MMFA Portal. For example, you can give directly to Camp Hope, Moravian Open Door, Board of World Mission, and many other worthy causes. You should receive acknowledgment of your gift directly from the ministry to which you donated.

About Our Offering Envelopes

  • The regular and on-going church bills are paid from contributions using the weekly white envelope with the blue border.
    • The top line marked “Schoeneck’s Ministry” pays for our worship, Christian Education, and music programs, salaries, utilities, insurance, and other necessities.
    • The bottom line marked “Wider Ministries” pays for our Eastern District commitments, which support medical insurance for our pastor as well as district ministries such as Camp Hope and Moravian Open Door.
  • Contributions in solid color envelopes for various projects and ministries go directly to those causes.
  • The monthly pink Capital Projects envelope collects funds for needed maintenance projects.
  • The money you give in the yellow envelope is designated for Schoeneck’s share of Common Ministries to the Northern Province. This helps pay for the Provincial and District staff; for recruiting and training future pastors; for your subscription to The Moravian magazine, along with preparing other publications, the Daily Texts, and Moravian websites; for support to the Board of World Mission, Moravian Music Foundation, and the Moravian Archives. The recommended monthly contribution is only a part of what the congregation pays each year to these causes, but this envelope is a way for everyone to have a share.

All envelopes are important. But the envelope that you should use FIRST is the white weekly envelope with the blue border. We appreciate all contributions, and we use them as effectively and efficiently as possible.

A Word About Percentage Giving

Grace permeates our lives, and giving to Schoeneck Moravian Church allows us to practice gratefully responding to that grace. It is the first step in cultivating a broader practice of generous living, shaping not only how we use our financial resources but also how we share our gifts of time, talent, and legacy with others. As we continue to invest in our faith community, we strengthen our personal relationship with God.

At Schoeneck Moravian Church, we believe that giving a percentage of one’s income, with the goal of tithing, to support ministries and benevolent causes is clear throughout the Bible. Making a pledge towards tithing to Schoeneck Moravian Church not only helps the church, but it helps you grow in your faith commitment to the church and to God.

Of course, we don’t expect you to dive right in at a full Biblical tithe (ten percent). Many people begin by pledging just one percent of their annual income. As they are able, they increase their percentage giving. It may be by just one percent at a time, or a leap-of-faith increase by several percent.

Percentage giving is a faith commitment. By giving a percentage of income, together we provide for the practical financial ministry needs of the church and other agencies of the faith community that helps provide for others. The success of our shared mission and ministries is realized through this practice of faithful stewardship.

We believe:

  • All we have belongs to God. Our blessings are gifts from God, our generous Creator.
  • We are lifelong stewards of the gifts with which God has blessed us.
  • God expects us to practice stewardship in ways that glorify God and that strengthen His earthly Kingdom.
  • Our stewardship decisions reveal the relative importance of God in our lives.
  • Stewardship greatly impacts the depth of our relationships with God and the quality of our earthly lives.
  • As good stewards, we should use our gifts of time, talent, treasure, and legacy in those places that best further God’s Kingdom.
  • Schoeneck Moravian Church is a conduit through which God works.
  • The practice of tithing changes hearts and strengthens relationships with God. Tithing is a tie that binds us to God.
