Our Church Leadership

The staff and leadership here at Schoeneck Moravian Church is comprised of brothers and sisters who love, care, and pray for every single person in the church. If you have questions for any of our staff, feel free to reach out and email them or call our Church Office (610-759-0375) to speak with them directly.

Rev. Ian Edwards, originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, has been pastor of Schoeneck Moravian Church since May 2024. He received his M.Div. from Moravian Theological Seminary in 2004. In addition to receiving theological and pastoral education, at seminary he met his wife Eileen, a fellow student. After his ordination in 2004, they moved to Staten Island, New York, where he served Great Kills Moravian Church. Ian and Eileen served as co-pastors until 2009, when they were called to Good News Moravian Church in Sherwood Park, Alberta, a suburb of Ian’s hometown. In addition to pastoring Good News, they co-founded Common Ground, a volunteer-powered community cafe. In 2021 Eileen was called to be the pastor at Palmer Moravian Church in Easton, and they returned to the Lehigh Valley.

Ian and Eileen have two sons. Brian lives in Edmonton, working as a pandemic researcher/immunological data analyst, immunology researcher. Their youngest son, Declan, attends Liberty High School in Bethlehem, playing flute and piccolo in the band and running track.

Our Joint Board

Here at Schoeneck Moravian Church we are led by an elected Joint Board, comprised of the Board of Elders and the Board of Trustees. These are the people chosen by the congregation who will serve as stewards and caretakers of our spiritual welfare and resources for the year. Together, these boards work in harmony to foster a thriving, faith-filled community.

Confirmed communicant members in good standing are eligible for election to either board. Board members are elected for a three-year term and, if elected, can only serve for two consecutive terms. We do not allow two people from one family to serve simultaneously on the same board.

The Board of Elders

The Board of Elders is responsible for the spiritual life and outreach of the congregation. They work alongside the pastor to discern how God is calling us and to offer guidance and support to facilitate the growth of Schoeneck Moravian Church. As such, they oversee worship, pastoral care, programming, and approve building use requests. They also guide the Christian Education of the congregation with the help of the Christian Education Ministry. The Elders also assist Pastor Ian in worship and with distributing the elements for Holy Communion.

Schoeneck Moravian Church holds an annual Church Council meeting on the first Sunday in February of each year. Church Council considers matters that are crucial to the life of the entire congregation. Key items on the agenda are the election of church officers and consideration of the church budget. Church Council has the power to set aside all other decisions that are made by Boards and Committees. Confirmed communicant members in good standing may vote at Church Council.
